The Stokes County Schools Board of Education approved the 2025-2026 traditional calendar and the Stokes Early College High School calendar.

Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. School is out on Monday, January 20th in recognition of MLK Jr. Day. Students return on Tuesday, January 21st. This Saturday night, 1/25, South Stokes will be hosting our Winter Formal at the school, from 8:00pm-11:00pm. Tickets are $15 if purchased online before the event, and $20 at the door. Outside date forms are located in the office and need to be returned by this Friday, January 24th. Next Saturday, February 1st, South Stokes will be holding a community Bingo Night in honor of the 60th Anniversary of the school. Pre-Sale ticket price is $20.00, and can be purchased online on our school website and Facebook post. The ticket includes a book of 20 games and 1 entry for a door prize. Tickets will be sold at the door for $25. Daubers are not included with price, they will be sold at the door. Prizes includes baskets with donations from community donors, clubs, and sports teams at South Stokes High School. We will also be selling food and drinks at the event. Doors open at 5:00 pm, with games beginning at 6:00 pm. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to our MC JROTC Drill Team on their first place finish at the Daniel Boone High School Drill competition this past weekend. This was their first competition this year and they did a great job. This week in Saura Sports, on Tuesday basketball travels to Elkin, and on Wednesday basketball travels to Reagan, wrestling travels to Elkin, and swim travels to Mt. Airy. On Friday basketball hosts  Alleghany and swim competes against West Stokes at the Stokes Family YMCA. Stokes County Schools will be on a regular schedule with limited bus routes on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Several roads that we did not allow buses to travel have improved. Each day, schools will call the families who live on the roads that our buses will not travel the following day. Please be safe and allow for extra travel time to school. Remember that we will not count any student late to school as tardy for the remainder of this week.

Stokes County Schools will be on a three-hour delay on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, and will have limited bus routes. The majority of roads in Stokes County will be fine in the morning. There may be a few patchy problem spots. There are a few roads on which we will not send buses. This will affect less than 2% of our students. Schools are calling the families who live on the roads where we will not send buses. Please know that we make weather decisions primarily based on our bus routes and the majority of our students. We are making this decision early so you can check your route to school, especially if you decide to allow your child to drive to school tomorrow. Please take your time and be safe when coming to school. To allow time for safe travel, schools will not count tardies for the remainder of this week.

Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. Due to winter weather, we will be having a remote learning day on Monday, January 13th. Students have assignments on Canvas and teachers are available by email and Google Meet during the office hours communicated to students. These support hours have also been posted on our school website and Facebook page. Report cards will be coming home on Tuesday, January 14. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Nathan Wilson. Nathan helped Mrs. Voss with preparing her room for final exams. Thank you, Nathan, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, on Tuesday basketball travels to Starmount, and on Wednesday indoor track travels to West Iredell. On Thursday wrestling travels to Southeast Alamance. On Friday basketball travels to North Stokes and on Saturday the Swim Team will be swimming at Pilot Mountain for the Conference swim meet. Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week we welcome back our students and begin the second semester. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year's break. Due to winter weather, school has been cancelled for Monday, January 6th. Our Spring Semester Open House originally scheduled for Monday night has been cancelled due to winter weather. On Tuesday, students will report to their home room first to receive their schedule for second semester. If your child has problems with their schedule, they need to meet with their counselor during the period of the class they need corrected. With a look ahead, South Stokes will be holding a Winter Formal on Saturday, January 25th from 8-11 at South Stokes. South Stokes will also be hosting a Bingo event for our 60th anniversary on February 1st. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Natalee Bailey. Natalee was a big help when I filled in as the substitute bus driver on the morning of the first day of exams for her bus. She helped with navigating the route so everyone was picked up. Thank you Natalee, for your kindness and leadership. Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week is Exam Week at South Stokes. During the exam period students that are exempt from their exam for the day are not required to come to school. Students taking state required EOC and CTE tests cannot be exempt from exams. Students are allowed to leave school after their exam for the day with a note dismissing them, however the buses will not dismiss until the end of the school day at 3:20. If your child is a bus rider and would like to leave after their exam, they will need a note giving them permission to ride home with another student or be picked up after their exam. If you have any questions about exams and exemptions, please call the school or email me with any questions. Monday's exams are first period and students that have English 2 this semester. Tuesday's exam is for 2nd period, Wednesday's exam is for 3rd period, Thursday's exam is for 4th period and Friday is for makeup exams only. Friday is the end of the first semester as well as a half day, so buses will run at 12:20 for the students that need to makeup an exam during exam week. Tuesday Night South Stokes will be having FAFSA Night for Senior families at 6:00 pm in the media center. Our counselors and college advisor will be helping families with the FAFSA and answering questions about ways to help students pay for college. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Mackenzie Garland and Leah Howell. Mackenzie and Leah always make an effort to say good morning to Mrs. Fouche's class, and they are always quick to help if they see someone struggling or having a bad day Thank you Mackenzie and Leah, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, later in the week the boys basketball team will be defending their championship title in the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic. On Thursday, the Sauras play East Forsyth at 5:30 at Mt. Tabor High School and on Saturday wrestling travels to Patrick County and the indoor track team will be competing at JDL . Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week is Winter Spirit Week at South Stokes! Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Baby its cold outside Day, Wednesday is Winter White Day, Thursday is Elf vs Grinch Day, and Friday is Ugly Sweater Day. The All County Honor Band performance at West Stokes will be Tuesday night at 6:30. The Band will be performing their Christmas Concert this Thursday at 7:00pm in the auditorium at South Stokes. This Saturday we will have the South Stokes Marine Corps JROTC, Saura Band and other South Stokes student groups marching in the Walnut Cove Christmas Parade. Looking ahead, December 16th-20th is exam week at South Stokes, and Christmas Break begins with Early Dismissal on December 20th. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Abbagail Eaton. Abby has been a great help to her teacher and her peers in 4th period. She has volunteered on multiple occasions to assist with reteaching and redirecting students on their research paper formatting and how to organize their work Thank you Abby, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, on Monday, the swim team travels to Kernersville. On Tuesday, basketball is at home hosting Surry Central. On Wednesday wrestling hosts East Wilkes and Surry Central. On Thursday swim travels to Fulton YMCA. On Friday basketball travels to Alleghany and on Saturday wrestling hosts the Joe Via Invitational. Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. Monday night at 6:30 there will be an Athletic Booster Club meeting in the cafeteria at South Stokes. On Tuesday there will be a band Boosters Club meeting in the band room at South at 6:30. Looking ahead, we have two weeks, ten school days, before exams begin on December 16th. Encourage your student to continue to work hard and come to school. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Jasmine Mabe. Jasmine is always willing to help and encourage her peers in class and goes above and beyond helping classmates catch up when needed. Jasmine is a awesome Saura student. Keep up the great work!
