Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week students will be on our regular schedule with 1st period beginning at 8:30 am. Smart Breakfast begins at 8:00 am and lasts until 8:25, this is an optional tutoring and club meeting time each day before the instructional day begins at South Stokes. This Wednesday through Friday we will be having our Club Rush. During lunch, our many different clubs will be setting up information tables in the lobby to share with students information about their clubs. Parents should make sure they complete the 2026-2027 required school forms, including the Chromebook agreement. This week in Saura sports, on Monday golf is at Hemlock, volleyball hosts North Surry, and soccer travels to West Stokes. On Tuesday, tennis travels to East Surry. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week we welcome our students back to South Stokes. This Thursday, August 13th will be the first day of school. The school day begins with first period at 8:30, but smart breakfast starts at 8:00 am. On the first day, students will begin school in the main gym for a school assembly, and will be dismissed to their Homerooms. If you student did not find out their homeroom teacher at Open House, they will be able to look them up as the home room lists will be posted in the main gym and lower lobby. The first two days students will be in home room for the first portion of the day, and will then go to their classes on a modified schedule. If you child has a whole in their schedule, they should come to the office during that period so their counselors can work with them to schedule a class. Parents should make sure they complete the 2026-2027 required school forms, including the Chromebook agreement. These forms can be found at our homepage by clicking on menu, then forms, and then SSHS 2026-2027 School Forms. This school year our school district is using Class Dojo for all schools. This app is an excellent communication tool, so be on the look out for an invite to join your child's classes. This week in Saura sports, cross country will have try outs on Monday, August 10th, 4:30-6:00. Students should meet under the picnic shelter at the track. On Wednesday, South Stokes will host West Stokes in Volleyball. On Thursday, volleyball travels to McMichael and soccer travels to East Surry. On Friday, South Stokes will be hosting a Football jamboree. One final sports announcement, this year all South Stokes students will have free admission to our regular season home games. Please encourage your child to make the most out of their high school experience, and show their Saura Pride by supporting our athletic teams. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your first Weekly Update for the 2026-2027 school year. We are excited to begin another incredible year at South Stokes High School. I send home these weekly updates to keep families informed, but we also share information on our school website and social media pages. Please like and follow our social media pages so that you will be informed on the latest information from South Stokes. This week we welcome our students and families back with Freshman Orientation and several Open House Sessions. This Thursday, August 6th we will be having Freshman Orientation at South Stokes at 4:30 PM. At 6:00 PM we will have Freshman Open House, beginning in the main gym. 10th - 12th grade Open House will be on Thursday, August 6th, during two floating sessions, one 10:00-12:00 and the other from 1:00-3:00. Families can choose to go to the Open House time that works best for your family's schedule. Parents can save time at Open House and Freshman orientation by completing the Chromebook form online. To do this, go to our homepage, click on menu and click on forms. You will then complete the 2026-2027 school forms. You can also pay the technology fee, as well as other fees online at https://stokescountyschools.schoolcashonline.com/. The first day of school is Thursday August 13th. This week in Saura sports, Fall tryouts began last week, and cross country will have try outs on Monday, August 10th, 4:30-6:00. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your final Saura Weekly Update for the 2025-2026 school year. School is out Monday in observance of Memorial Day. On this day we take a moment to honor and remember all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. State exams continue this week through Friday, make sure to send in a dismissal note if your child will be leaving after completion of their exam that day. Students without an exam do not need to come to school. Seniors need to be at the mandatory graduation practices this week, the first on Wednesday, May 27th from 1:30-4:00 in the main gym, and the next on Thursday, May 28th on the football field 1:00-3:00pm. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week we will be having teacher made exams on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday during regularly scheduled classes. On Tuesday, yearbooks will be distributed during lunch. Students will have a yearbook signing after awards day on Thursday. We will be having our Saura Pride Flex period on Tuesday. Wednesday we will be having a School Improvement Team meeting after school at 3:30 in room D3. We will be having our Academic Awards Day at South Stokes on Thursday, May 21st at 9:00 am in the main gym. We will begin with our schoolwide department awards, followed by our recognition of Seniors with their Honors and Cording ceremony. On Friday we will begin our exam period, and it will run through next Friday, May 29th. Students that are exempt from final exams are not required to come to school on those days. Your child's teacher will give them a schedule of their exams before the exam period so you will know which classes they are exempted from. Our Graduation Ceremony for the class of 2026 will be on Friday, May 29th at 7:30 at our football stadium. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Mason Parker. Mason is a caring student, he is always asking peers if they are okay and also makes a point to talk to students who are alone Thank you Mason, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, congratulations to the Men's Golf team for finishing 3rd at the state championships and to Sawyer Slate for finishing in the top ten individually. Congratulations to our State Track Championship qualifiers and their performance at the state track meet, Brooke Burroughs placed 3rd in the long jump while also setting a new school record, and 9th in the triple jump, Eli Amos-Wall finished 11th in the pole vault, Dorothy Diaz finished 6th in shotput and 11th in discus, and Jamier Davis finished 9th in long jump. Congratulations to our soccer team, baseball team, and softball team on great seasons after their runs in the playoffs. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. I hope everyone has a Happy Mother's Day. On Monday night, we will be inducting the first members into the South Stokes Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society at 6:30 in the main gym. On Tuesday, the Junior class will meet with representatives from Strawbridge Studios to discuss their senior portraits over the summer in July. On Tuesday evening we will be having the Spring Band Concert in the auditorium at South Stokes at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we will be having AP Testing for AP English Language and Composition, AP Spanish Language and Culture, and AP Environmental Science. On Thursday evening we will be having our annual Powder Puff game at 6:00 pm. Looking ahead, we will be having our Academic Awards Day at South Stokes on Thursday, May 21st at 9:00 am in the main gym. The families of students receiving honors and awards will be notified this week so that you can plan to join us that morning. Our Graduation Ceremony for the class of 2026 will be on Friday, May 29th at 7:30 at our football stadium. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Jordan Flinchum. Jordan has been putting in incredible work in the community at Good Old Days Car Wash—building strong employment skills, fostering positive social connections, and growing in economic literacy. This week in Saura Sports, the golf team is heading to the 2A state championship at Gates Four Golf and Country Club in Fayetteville. This week the state tournament begins for soccer as we host Albemarle at South Stokes on Monday. On Tuesday, the softball team travels to Starmount for the third round of the state tournament and baseball hosts the Community School of Davidson in the 3rd round of the state tournament. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. Thank you to everyone that helped make the Special Olympics a success last Friday. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, thank you to all of our teachers that are the backbone of our learning community. There will be an Athletic Booster Club meeting on Monday Night at 6:30 in the cafeteria. This Tuesday we begin our AP Testing with AP Chemistry. Students need to report to school by 7:30 for testing that morning. Wednesday is Saura Senior Serve Day, when our seniors return to their elementary schools for their Graduation Walk, and to perform a service project for the school. After the project, they will have a celebration at Horizons Park in Germanton. Wednesday is also School Nurse Day, thank you to our school nurse, Ashley Haynes, for the great job she does taking care of our students. This Friday we will be welcoming several of our elementary schools to our theater department's junior musical production of Junie B. Jones. This Friday night the JROTC cadets will be having Mess Night at South Stokes in the cafeteria. beginning at 5pm. This Saturday our FFA will be holding their annual banquet in the main gym at South Stokes at 5pm. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Kristina Love and Kylie Young . These students have worked really hard on the year book and the spring insert. They have shown great leadership by the amount of time they have put into working on the yearbook before the deadline Thank you Kristina and Kylie, for your kindness and leadership. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This Friday, May 1st, South Stokes High School will be hosting the Special Olympics. We are excited to welcome our athletes from across the county to come a be a part of this memorable event. On Monday morning, South Stokes will be having the Grand Opening of our new Greenhouse. The ceremony begins at 9:00am followed by light refreshments. Check out our social media pages and website for pricing for this year's flowers and plants. Tuesday afternoon we will be celebrating our students that earned CTE credentials with a celebration in the main gym at the start of 4th period. On Tuesday night, at 6:00 pm, we will be holding our rescheduled National Honor Society Induction ceremony in the auditorium at South Stokes. On Thursday at the start of second period, there will be a Forsyth Tech Orientation for students that are new to Forsyth Tech classes. This Friday is School Lunch Hero Day! Thank you to our wonderful lunch ladies in our Sauratown Cafe. The do a terrific job! This week's Saura Shout Out goes to David Lozzi, Emily Lozzi, Sydney Joyce, Tianna Corum . These 4 fantastic student athletes took time out of their Wednesday night to help the Super Saura Challenger team athletes play their baseball game! Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. Congratulations to South Stokes Ag Teacher Sawyer Ferguson on being named the Stokes County Schools Teacher of the year. Mrs. Ferguson does a tremendous job for our students and our school, and she will represent the Stokes County Schools well. This Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday students from our Ag Department will be holding Farm Animal Days at the American Legion in King. At this annual event, Second grade students from across the district will learn from our students about farm animals and agriculture in our region. On Thursday we will be hosting the Farmer's Appreciation Dinner at South Stokes. Also on Thursday, we will be having homeroom to distribute prom tickets. This Saturday the South Stokes Junior/Senior Prom will be held at Luna's Trail farm and event center, from 7pm - 11pm. The prom is a formal event, and the rules and dress code for prom have been shared with the juniors and seniors on their grade canvas pages. If you have any questions, please reach out to the school. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. I hope everyone has had a relaxing spring break. This week school resumes on Monday, April 13th. On Monday, we will be having our National Honor Society induction ceremony at 6:00pm. On Tuesday progress reports will go home, and we will be having a career fair for our juniors and seniors. There will be two sessions, one during 1st period, and a second during 3rd period. We will not have our flex period on Tuesday to accommodate this opportunity for our students. Prom tickets go on sale this week, Tuesday through Thursday, during lunch. Several students still have fees that must be paid before you can purchase your prom ticket. Tickets are $40 each, and the prom will be Saturday, April 25th at Luna Trail. This Thursday, Friday and Saturday our Theater Department will be performing their spring musical "Newsies" in the South Stokes Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at www.stokesarts.org. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $7 for students. This Friday seniors will have Cap and Gown pictures in the main gym. The pictures will be in the morning and should finish around lunch. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Leah Rierson, Trinity Simmons, Kaylee Christian. These students were a big help on the field trip to the Greensboro Science Center by making sure our EC students had a great time. He also showed respect when welcoming a classroom speaker, engaging thoughtfully in conversation and asking questions that reflected strong, positive social skills. On Thursday we will have make up testing for the ACT and this Saturday our Athletic Boosters club $10,000 cash reverse raffle, the club's biggest fundraising event is March 28th. Tickets are $100, and will get you a dinner for two and entrance into the reverse raffle. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Rebecca Castellano and Alyssa Underwood. Alyssa and Rebecca are dedicated to supporting the JROTC program and our local community. On numerous occasions, and on short notice, they volunteered to support various events, upholding the values of the JROTC program. Thank you Rebecca and Alyssa, for your kindness and leadership.
