Amigos Unidos Club

The goal of all performance-based instrumental ensembles at South Stokes High School is to enhance and encourage each student's understanding of musical concepts and terms with an emphasis on in class ensemble rehearsals and performances. It is the intent and purpose of the SSHS instrumental music department to provide all students with a well rounded, challenging, and focused music education that can be used and appreciated for life.

Candidates for the BETA Club are identified during their sophomore year and must have an average of at least 93. Candidates must display satisfactory conduct. Transfer students who are not already members of National BETA Club become eligible for consideration at the end of one semester at South Stokes. Upon nomination by the principal, the candidates are submitted to a faculty committee for approval. Characteristics used in selecting BETA Club members are leadership, character, scholarship, good morals, loyalty to the school achievement, and a commendable attitude. BETA Club members will be dropped from the club for failure to maintain satisfactory conduct, failure to maintain an average of 93, or failure to participate in club activities.
Are you interested in computer programming and cyber security? The South Stokes Coding Club is a great place to expand your knowledge and gain access to college and career information in these fields. We are lucky to be partnered with Forsyth Technical Community College and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Forsyth Tech students come to our school and assist our students in projects and UNCG has donated iPads for student use.

The purpose of the SSHS Environmental Club is to lead SSHS in the effort to remove all recyclable waste from trash and transport to places where it will be recycled or reused, raise awareness in student body about sustainable practices, propose ways that the school system can choose actions that will create more sustainable practices, promote local businesses, farms, and entrepreneurs to keep our money in or near Stokes County and reduce fossil fuels to transport items to Stokes County, and support people and organizations working to improve sustainable practices.

Fellowship of Christian Students
The Fellowship of Christian Students exists to accommodate an environment on campus of Christian fellowship and spirit. Our group has held various events in the last few years such as the Creepy Pines Haunted Trail for Halloween, car washes as fund raisers, and traveled to Christian-based events around our area. A casual atmosphere is apparent during our meetings and events and we are always open for anyone wanting to be a part. We meet weekly for prayer. Remember to listen for announcements about upcoming events!

Future Farmers of America
FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their leadership skills and leads to personal growth and career success. Agricultural education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices related to global agricultural, food, fiber, and natural resources systems. FFA members participate in events such as Farm Animal Day, the Stokes County Fair, the NC State Fair, Environmental Days, the Southern Farm Show, and selected students attend the National FFA Convention. The club's motto is "I believe". We encourage everyone to join FFA and/or take an agriculture class.

HOSA

South Stokes JROTC is a great program that offers a comprehensive learning environment anchored in a military structure, history, high moral values, and teamwork. The program instills leadership, discipline, and mental and physical challenges. Cadets will learn Marine Corps values, leadership principles, history, first aid, land navigation, safety on the firing range, and general knowledge about the Marine Corps. The are several other activities such as drill, ceremonies, marksmanship, drone racing, JROTC quiz bowl, orienteering, and Raiders team competitions. Each semester cadets are chosen by their skills to compete in a variety of different events. Responding to regional challenges, the Marine Corps JROTC program complements the entire Stokes County School District.

Mu Alpha Theta
Students are able to apply for membership in Mu Alpha Theta, the National Mathematics Honor Society, after completing their fourth semester of college preparatory mathematics and must be enrolled in a fifth semester. To become a member, the student must have an overall average of 85 and an average of 90 in five semesters of college preparatory mathematics. National dues consist of a one time payment of $5.00. Members are inducted in the spring at the Awards Day ceremony.

National Honor Society
Membership in the R.M. Green Chapter of the National Honor Society is an honor bestowed by the faculty. To be eligible for membership, the student must have completed the first semester of their junior year and have a cumulative scholastic average of 93 beginning with the 9th grade. The candidates' names are submitted to a faculty council for review of their character, leadership, and service in school and nonschool activities. Once approved the candidates are notified of their selection in writing. Failure to maintain chapter standards will result in dismissal.

Pep Club
In Pep Club, we involve ourselves and our peers in improving our school in various ways. We devote our time to supporting our school in all areas. We work to improve school spirit by painting our Spirit Rock, decorating the school for sports events, and coming out to support our fellow Sauras in their various events and activities. Look for us at the next Pep Rally or out at the Spirit Rock spraying on a new coat of paint!

Quiz Bowl
The Quiz Bowl team consists of a group of students who are supported by the Northwestern Regional Library. Members must have a wide base of knowledge in many areas since the competition questions can come from a variety of subjects. The team competes against other high schools in the area once a year at the Andy Griffith Playhouse in Mount Airy. The South Stokes Quiz Bowl team won the competition in 2008, 2010, 2013, and 2016.

Student Government Association
The SGA at South Stokes High School is an elected group of students who represent each grade level and the student body as a whole. The SGA is a service organization that is involved in projects both on campus and in the community. They sponsor Homecoming and Sweetheart Court as well as several pep rallies, the talent show, and other campus activities. Members are expected to attend regular meetings and participate actively in all club sponsored events. The SGA is a great opportunity to explore and demonstrate leadership skills.

The goals of the Theatre and Choir Department are to teach students about theatre and vocal music and produce future arts supporters, performers, and educators. We strive to challenge students artistically, academically, and creatively in a caring and respectful environment, providing quality cultural and performance opportunities to our students. It is our hope that all residents of Stokes County and the surrounding communities will appreciate the high quality of our performances.
