Mr. Mercer has been selected as the Stokes County Schools CTE Teacher of the Year, and will be recognized at Monday night's School Board Meeting. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. Thank you to all of our Saura families that joined us for Future Saura Night last Friday. We had a great turn out, and our football team won their first home game of the season. Monday night there will be an athletic boosters club meeting in the cafeteria at 6:30. Progress reports come home on Tuesday. Tuesday night is Saura Spirit Night at Kobe Japanese in Walnut Cove. Come out for dinner between 5pm and 9pm and a portion of the money that night will be donated back to South Stokes. Students that come out can sign up for a prize drawing on Wednesday. On Wednesday night, the Beta Club will be having an Induction ceremony for its new members at 6:00pm in the auditorium. Also on Wednesday night, the Band boosters will be meeting at 6:30 in the band room. This Saturday the band boosters will be having a yard sale at Southeastern Stokes Middle School from 8-3pm, and on Sunday the band will be having a spirit afternoon at Front Porch Creamery from 1-4pm, where a portion of the ice cream sold will go to our band boosters. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Kyaha King. Kyaha has stepped up to help our new freshmen adjust to high school band. Thank you Kyaha, for your kindness and leadership. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week is Spirit Week at South Stokes! . Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Adam Sandler Day, Prep Day, Thursday is Luau Day and Friday is Camo Day. Spirit Week will culminate with our first Pep Rally of the year on Friday. Students get in free to our home football game against Surry Central for our Future Sauras Night. We are recognizing all of the South District schools at this game during half time. Parking passes have been issued, so students should be parking in their assigned spots. Parking space enforcement begins this week, so remind you students to park in their assigned space. Monday night there will be a band boosters meeting in the band room at 6:30. This Saturday the band will be performing at the Stokes Stomp at Moratock Park in Danbury. Also on Saturday, we will have the Senior Parking Space paint day make up from 11am-5pm. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Tianna Corum. Tianna stepped up to the plate for a new position as Student senior mentor advisor and is doing an amazing job along with having a busy schedule!. Thank you Tianna, for your kindness and leadership. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. I hope everyone is enjoying your Labor Day weekend. School is out tomorrow, and students return on Tuesday. This week at South Stokes we will be having our annual Club Rush in the lower lobby during lunch. Each of our student clubs and organizations set up tables to recruit members and promote their clubs. I encourage all of our students to be active members of our clubs, and get the most out of their high school experience. This week during lunch students will receive their parking passes. Once they have received their pass, students should begin parking in their assigned space. This Friday is picture day at South Stokes for 9th-11th grades. Last Friday students received picture forms in homeroom. If you did not receive one, please reach out to the school before pictures this Friday. Make up pictures will be on Friday, October 17th. This Saturday, September 6th, Seniors that have completed the parking space painting agreement with Mrs. Dunn, are invited to come to South and paint their parking space. The school will be open from 11:00am - 5:00 pm for students to use the restrooms, and snacks and waters will be provided. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Brady Clark. Brady helped Coach Cox with getting ice/water coolers for tennis during our first week of school. Thank you Brady, for your kindness and leadership. If your child still has schedule problems, tell them to come to the office during the period when the class change needs to occur. On Tuesday night at 6:30 there will be a band boosters meeting in the band room at South Stokes. If your student is in the band, please consider coming out and getting information on how we can support our Saura Band. A reminder to families, in high school students must pay for lunch. If your family qualifies for free or reduced lunch, you are required to complete the application every year. This can be completed online through the child nutrition website, or a paper copy can be picked up in the office. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Waylen McNeil. After a welcome back assembly in the gym, students will report to their homerooms. After homeroom, students will attend their classes on an adjusted schedule. Students that have holes in their schedule should report to the main office the period of the class they are missing or wish to change. This week in Saura sports, on Monday night, volleyball travels to Mount Tabor, the Athletic Boosters Club will be meeting in the cafeteria at 6:30. Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your first Weekly Update for the 2025-2026 school year. We are excited to begin another incredible year at South Stokes High School. I send home these weekly updates to keep families informed, but we also share information on our school website and social media pages. Please bear with us as we try to navigate the problems that have popped up from the transfer of the new student information system, Infinite Campus. The Fall Drivers Education class will open for registration on August 4th. This class is for students born on or before February 26th, 2011. Check the Drivers education tab on our school homepage for more information and to register. South Stokes Band Camp begins on August 5th at 8:00 AM and will meet through August 7th. This week we welcome our students and families back with Freshman Orientation and several Open House Sessions. On August 6th we will be having Freshman Orientation at South Stokes at 4:30 PM. At 6:00 PM we will have Freshman Open House, beginning in the main gym. 10th - 12th grade Open House will be on August 7th, during two floating sessions, one 11:00-12:30 and the other from 5:00-6:30. Hello, this is Dr. Chris Bottoms, Principal of South Stokes High School. Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, Stokes County Schools has transitioned from Powerschool to a new student information system, NC SIS powered by Infinite Campus. The new NC SIS provides additional features to help you monitor your child’s educational progress and a mobile-friendly experience that makes it easier to see everything on the go. This system will replace PowerSchool as your one-stop-shop for grades, attendance, assignments and other important school information. More information will be available late July. Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week we have exams at South Stokes High School. During the exam period students are allowed to leave school after their exam for the day if they bring a note dismissing them, however the buses will not dismiss until the end of the school day at 3:20. If your child is a bus rider and would like to leave after their exam, they will need a note giving them permission to ride home with another student or be picked up after their exam. If your child is exempt from this exam, they do not need to attend. Students taking state required EOC and CTE tests cannot be exempt from exams. Monday we will be testing first period exams and English 2 EOCs. On Tuesday we will be testing 2nd period exams and students that missed 1st period exams due to English 2 testing, Wednesday we are testing 3rd period exams, Thursday we are testing 4th period exams and Friday we are testing make up exams. If you have any questions about exams and exemptions, please call the school or email me. Seniors have required graduation practice on Wednesday at 1:30pm and Thursday at 1:00pm. Our graduation ceremony taking place on Friday, May 23rd at 7:30 in the football stadium. Thank you for your support of South Stokes High School, and as always, GO SAURAS!

Subject: Update on PowerSchool Data Breach and Ongoing Protection Measures
Dear Stokes County Families,
We want to make you aware of a recent update related to the PowerSchool data breach that was originally reported in January of this year. Recently, several schools and North Carolina Department of Pubic Instruction (NCDPI) employees across the state received messages from threat actors claiming to have access to student and teacher data from that breach. We have been informed that several Canadian school districts have received similar messages as well.
Based on the current status of NCDPI’s investigation, they believe that the threat actors have access to the same data tables that were originally compromised. These data tables include student and staff names, contact information, social security numbers (limited student social security numbers), birthdays, medical notes, passwords (limited) and parent/guardian information.
NCDPI has already notified appropriate law enforcement agencies, who are actively investigating this incident.
We want to assure you that your Stokes County Schools and NCDPI have done everything possible to protect this information. PowerSchool, the vendor responsible for the incident, has taken full responsibility for the breach and is providing support services for those impacted.
What You Need to Know:
Please do not open any suspicious links or emails related to this incident.
- Do not engage with anyone claiming to have this data.
- PowerSchool is offering two years of free identity protection and credit monitoring to all
affected students and educators through July 1, 2025. NCDPI is advocating for this
window to be extended further to ensure everyone has time to enroll. Affected individuals
